Story from Ranjana Devi
Two years have passed today and the death of my husband Salesh Chand still remains a mystery. A few days after the discovery of his charred remains in his burnt company car in the FSC compound in Lautoka, police said in the media that it was a case of murder.
I have been going to the Lautoka Police Station since then to get updates on the investigation but there is nothing forthcoming so far. The issue has also been highlighted in the media on a few occasions and the only thing police say is that they are still investigating. When i checked with police the last time, the investigating officer told me it was suicide. But how can they say suicide when they had initially said it was murder. i have tried to meet senior police officers to raise my concerns but to no avail.
It just seems that police officers assigned to the case have no experience and therefore they are still clueless. I lost my husband and my two sons lost their father. The thought of his killer or killers not being caught yet still haunts me.
Who shall i turn to now to seek justice? As it is now, the death of my husband is still unsolved and it remains a mystery. I believe that police should do something instead of just saying in the media that they are investigating.
What would they have done if their loved one had been killed in a similar way? Would they have said that they still investigating and then later say it was suicide when it was initially stated as a case of murder? Or would they have arrested the suspect and charged him long time ago? I need answers from those in authority.
