A Domino’s pizza store in Texas has been slammed as racist after labeling a woman as ‘lady with Muslim husband’ on her order.
Amber Nasim, from Baycliff, Texas, says she will never order pizza from Domino’s again after seeing the label while picking up a to-go order on Friday.
‘I was enraged,’ Naism told Khou.com.
She said she was at the store with her husband, Wajahat, and requested a clean cut on two of the pizzas so the pork product from one pizza with ham on it wouldn’t touch the second pizza.
Nasim said she made the request because her husband, who is Muslim, has religious dietary restrictions.
And instead of putting her name on the pizzas or identifying with another quality, the Domino’s employee labeled them as for ‘lady with the Muslim husband.’
‘When they handed me the pizza, they turned it around backwards to hide what they had done,’ Nasim told the outlet.
‘I saw them trying to hide it. I’m not going to lie, I flipped out. I started cursing and yelling and flipping them off.’
After noticing the labels on Friday she went home and posted about her frustration on Facebook, writing: ‘this kind of hate and racism has to stop.’
‘I just want people to realize this is not OK,’ she wrote in her post.
A corporate Domino’s spokesperson issued a statement to KHOU, saying that Nasim ‘did not receive the service or respect she should expect from our brand.’
‘As a walk-in customer, we should have asked for her name and number to identify her order, which did not happen on this particularly busy night,’ the spokesperson said.
‘A special request she made on behalf of her husband for a clean cut on the pizza, due to religious considerations – which is something we accommodate regularly without issue – should not have been used to identify her or her order.’
The spokesperson also said the employee responsible was reprimanded and ‘feels badly,’ and issues Nasim their heartfelt apology.
Nasim has said she is willing to forgive the restaurant and employee for the incident, but will not be ordering from there again.
