A popular hot pool destination in North Canterbury is today reopening for the first time in two months.
The popular alpine thermal pools and spa has been closed since 22 March due to the pandemic lockdown.
All 22 pools at Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spas are now back up and running, and already fully booked for Queen’s Birthday weekend.
About half the usual number of visitors will be allowed into the complex, to ensure physical distancing.Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa general manager Graeme Abbot said it was a great feeling to be able to fill the pools with happy locals and domestic tourists again.
With the long weekend bringing a small resurgence in domestic tourism, operators are calling on people to back them in the long term, Abbot said.
“Queen’s Birthday is going to be a very busy one for the team – and the village – with the pools fully booked.
“We’re in for a tough winter in the village, and we need more than one off boosts like what we’re seeing this weekend.”
