Queensland man infected on cruise ship becomes Australia’s ninth virus death

A man from south-east Queensland has died from coronavirus after he was infected on a cruise ship docked in Sydney.

Garry Kirstenfeldt, 68, from Toowoomba, was aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Voyager of the Seas.

The death toll in Australia now stands at 11, after two men in Victoria died overnight.

He then became ill with the virus. He had an underlying medical condition before contracting coronavirus and he died late yesterday.

Queensland Health says his wife remains in isolation.”Queensland Health offers its sincere condolences to his family.
